India to assist Russia in studying the natural environment of the Arctic region

03 may 2024

The ongoing climate change in the Far North can significantly affect the ecosystem of not only Russia but other regions and countries too. Indian colleagues volunteered to assist Russian scientists in studying vegetation communities and conducting climate observations.

To this end, a series of working meetings with representatives of scientific institutes in India is planned in the near future. Possible directions and topics for studying the natural environment of the Arctic region will be discussed.

The research results may have scientific and practical significance and will allow a deeper understanding of the peculiarities of the northern natural environment and take all necessary measures to preserve it in modern conditions, Director of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute Alexander Makarov told TASS.

The new project may be comparable in scale to the International Space Station, he said.
