The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) should obtain a mandate in the field of environmental protection and develop an action plan to solve environmental problems within the framework of the association.
According to the head of the Department of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ainur Jorobekova who spoke at the IV Central Asian Conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club, in 2022-2023, an environmental agenda was outlined in the activities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and an initiative was put forward to create the SCO Climate Council. Therefore, it is also necessary to develop an action plan to solve environmental problems within the framework of the EAEU
"If we talk about the international institution of our common EAEU space, then, unfortunately, there is no environmental dimension in this international structure," she said.
"It would be worth putting forward a proposal to empower the EAEU in the field of environmental protection."
The expert noted that regional players such as Tajikistan and Uzbekistan can be involved in the relevant climate agenda, formed within the framework of the EAEU, through the creation of a series of environmental regimes under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
