Novgorod University receives funding to combat microplastics pollution

Novgorod University has won a grant from the Ministry of Education and Science for 500 million rubles to solve the problems of environmental pollution with microplastics, the governor of the region Andrey Nikitin said in his Telegram channel.

Megagrants is a prestigious program of international cooperation between Russian universities and scientific organizations with global specialists in the fields of science, education and innovation. The grant is issued by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation under the national project "Science and Universities".

"The university team, together with Italian Professor Joze Kenny, won a 500 million rubles megagrant competition for the implementation of international scientific projects. (...) Our project concerns new approaches to solving the problem of microplastics as a potential threat to humans and the environment," Nikitin said.

According to him, this will allow attracting the largest scientists to the region, doing breakthrough scientific research and training highly qualified personnel.
