More than 30 tons of waste removed at a clean-up event near Novodvinsk

14 june 2024

On Russia Day, June 12, volunteers cleared the territory of the former Rodonit lamp factory near Novodvinsk.

Almost 100 people participated in the clean-up event organized by the Clean Arctic project. Together they eliminated the unauthorized landfill and collected more than 30 tons of waste, which were taken to the official landfill site.

Such clean-up events (called subbotniks in Russia) for disposal of industrial waste have been held in the Novodvinsk region since 2023. An unauthorized landfill has been forming near the now-abandoned Rodonit lamp factory since Soviet times. The territory has become a landfill for building materials, glass, plastic bottles, dvina29.ru reports.
