The new season of the Clean Arctic environmental project in the Karelia Republic began with collecting waste in the Kemsky district, the Ministry of Natural Resources of Karelia reported.
About 80 volunteers worked at popular tourist locations: in the village of Rabochiostrovsk and on the island of Yak in the White Sea. Local residents were joined by representatives of the Movement of the First, volunteers of the Clean Arctic project from Volgograd, Vladimir, Yaroslavl, Moscow.
"In past seasons, volunteers have set up routes and hiking trails in Karelia on the territories of the Paanayarvi National Park, the Belomorsky Petroglyphs archaeological complex, and the Voitsky Padun waterfall. We are watching over these locations. And we are pleased with two facts: these places are popular with tourists, while there is no more waste there," said Andrey Nagibin, head of the Clean Arctic public environmental project.
Despite the heavy rain, the volunteers collected almost 500 kg of municipal solid waste. The cleaning of the territory will last until June 30, rk.karelia.ru reports.
