The Arctic Team collected more than 150 tons of waste at remote polar stations

01 july 2024

For almost a month, twenty volunteers from different regions of Russia carried out work at the Zimnegorsky Lighthouse, Morzhovets Island, Kanin Nose and Kolguev Island.

The efforts of volunteers made it possible to collect more than 150 tons of garbage, which is a significant contribution to the preservation of Arctic ecosystems. pravdasevera.ru reports.

"Water and soil samples were taken in all areas of the expedition, various studies of water for microplastics and chemical composition were carried out. Also, undisturbed accumulations of household and large-sized iron waste have been recorded everywhere, which means that the big Arctic cleanup should be continued," commented Artyom Smolokurov, the head of the expedition.
