Russia has not joined the ban that the International Maritime Organization (IMO) imposed on the heating oil to be used as marine fuel in the Arctic to protect the marine environment.
The ban, adopted in June 2021 by the Marine Environment Protection Committee, came into force on July 1. The prohibitive measure applies to the use of heating oil as bunker fuel and its transportation in Arctic waters.
Meanwhile, aside from Russia, Canada and Finland have notified IMO that a ban on the use and transportation of heating oil in Arctic waters will not come into force in their countries, b-port.com reports.
