The scientific research vessel Ivan Petrov returned to Arkhangelsk after an expedition during which Roshydromet specialists monitored radioactive contamination in the southeastern part of the Barents Sea.
"During the voyage, water and sediment samples were taken for the content of caesium, strontium, tritium and plutonium isotopes at seven marine stations in the Barents Sea in the area of the Kara Gate, Yugorsky Shar and Kolguev Island," said Georgy Artemyev, head of the expedition, leading engineer of NPO Typhoon.
As a result, scientists will receive up-to-date information on the state of water, sediments, soil and biota and will assess the radioactive pollution of the environment in the Arctic zone, b-port.com reports.
