19 july 2024

Students of the Geography Faculty of the Moscow State University are studying the state of the soil and rivers in Yamal as part of the practice at the Scientific Center for Arctic Studies and the Russian Center for Arctic Development, the Yamal Unites channel on Telegram reported.

"The main goal is to find out the carbon content in the soil and spread this data over a large area. Now the team of young scientists continues their research, moving towards Nadym, and then towards Salekhard," the message says.

A group of young scientists is also exploring small rivers that cross the Surgut-Salekhard highway. Students take readings of the water flow velocity, take samples of sediments and water for analysis.

The analysis is being conducted in order to study climate change, including in the north of Russia.
