The third Arctic expedition organized by the St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications named after Professor M.A. Bonch-Bruevich will test a new transceiver in Yakutia, TASS reports.
The Alice-s device, developed by scientists and university students, will help provide communications in the Arctic region. It connects to the phone via Bluetooth and can transmit various types of messages, as well as connect to other equipment, for example, a weather station.
“The device can be used to establish communications in the Tiksi village. Transceivers are installed every 16 km, providing communications to the populated area,” TASS quotes expedition leader Andrei Stepanov as saying.
He added that after testing, the transceiver will be sent for modification, and in a year the set of devices is planned to be transferred to the Yakut village of Tiksi to provide communications to social infrastructure. Also, one of the main tasks of the expedition will be to conduct scientific research in the field of communication development in remote regions and deploy a hybrid communication network in test mode on a national scale.
