26 july 2024

The first solar-powered hydrogen plant in Russia has been opened on Sakhalin, according to the head of the Sakhalin region Valery Limarenko who spoke at the commissioning ceremony.

"Sakhalin has become the location for one of the three hydrogen facilities in Russia. Today, here, before your eyes, the first drop of hydrogen will be produced," he said.

Pavel Sorokin, First Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, stressed that the launch of hydrogen generation at this facility will allow Russia to take its rightful place on the international technological map of the world.

"The topic of reducing the carbon footprint and improving the energy efficiency of new technologies is more relevant than ever. Thanks to such projects, Russia will be able to take its rightful place on the international technological map of the world, not only in terms of energy commodities," he said.

The deputy minister noted that hydrogen fuel is in demand, and the launch of the facility will provide energy to remote regions of the country, TASS reports.
