A large research expedition of the Floating University set off from Murmansk to the Arctic to study the features of the relief in the north of the Barents-Kara shelf.
Scientists will spend 41 days on board the research vessel Akademik Boris Petrov. During this time, they will study sedimentation, hydrodynamics and other parameters of the oceanic shelf.
Researchers plan to present in detail the history of the last glaciation in the Barents and Kara Seas and obtain data for predicting climate change on Earth for several millennia ahead, murmansk.mk.ru reports.
