90 volunteers cleaned up the coastal zone of the city of Pevek in the Chukotka Autonomous District, the press service of the Clean Arctic project reported.
The volunteers from Moscow, Novosibirsk and Murmansk regions, Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Republics of Crimea and Karelia were joined by employees of the floating nuclear thermal power plant Akademik Lomonosov (Rosatom project), representatives of the Russian Guard and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as well as local residents.
They cleared up the coastal area of metal and waste left over from newly built sewage treatment plants and the demolition of old buildings. A floating nuclear thermal power plant, the Arctic center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and a shelter for homeless animals are located in this area.
During the cleanup, the volunteers collected 40 cubic meters of solid municipal waste and 85.5 tons of scrap metal.
The volunteers of the Clean Arctic project have been clearing Chukotka of scrap metal and other debris for several years.
In 2023, volunteers carried out cleaning operations near the village of Billings, on the coast of the Chaunskaya Bay and at the Glubokaya weather station. In total, they collected more than 25 tons of waste, gazeta.ru reports.
