A group of volunteers from the Clean Arctic project collected 720 tons of waste during the cleaning of the Barents Sea coast near the village of Old Varandey in the Nenets Autonomous District, said the governor of the region, Yuri Bezdudny.
"20 hectares of cleared territory in the area of Old Varandey, 700 tons of scrap metal and 20 tons of other waste - these are the results of general cleanup conducted by the Clean Arctic project," he wrote on the Telegram channel.
According to Bezdudny, in 2024, volunteers from nine regions of the country came to clean up the coast near Old Varandey: from Nenets Autonomous District, Rostov, Moscow, Volgograd, Orenburg, Irkutsk and Arkhangelsk regions, Stavropol and Krasnodar Territories, and the Republic of Crimea.
Volunteers have been clearing the seashore of debris for almost two weeks, tass.ru reports.
