Yamal geoecologists discover irrefutable evidence of climate warming

10 october 2024

Yamal geoecologists together with scientists from Tyumen and Barnaul completed four years of research in the lower reaches of the Ob river and confirmed the evidence of global warming, telegram channel Yamal Unites reported.

"The changing composition of water in the river serves as a sensitive indicator of current changes in biogeochemical processes within the catchment area," the channel quotes Russian ecologist Andrey Soromotin as saying. According to him, the changes are closely related to climate warming.

Scientists noted the melting of permafrost, increased flood water runoff, and an increase in precipitation. At the same time, changes in watersheds are subject to strong seasonal fluctuations, sever-press.ru reports.
