Almost 6 tons of recyclables removed from national parks on Lake Baikal

11 december 2024

In 2024, almost 6 tons of metal, glass and plastic of recyclable waste were collected in national parks near Lake Baikal, which is twice as much as in 2023, the press service of the Lake Baikal Foundation told TASS.

"The largest of the three national parks participating in the program, Pribaikalsky, became the absolute record holder for the collection of recyclables in the 2024 season. Here visitors, volunteers and staff collected 3.8 tons of recyclable waste," the press service said.

The campaign of the Lake Baikal Foundation for the separate collection of recyclables in Baikal national parks has been going on for six years. The National Parks Without Waste program involves three specially protected natural areas located in the regions around Lake Baikal: Zabaikalsky National Park (Buryatia), Pribaikalsky National Park (Irkutsk Region) and Chikoy National Park (Zabaikalsky Territory).
