Lake Baikal may not be covered with ice this winter. Local rescuers urge residents to be careful and recommend not to go to the surface of the lake.
According to rescuers, the fragmentary ice cover that managed to form on the surface of the water area is now extremely unstable.
In the north of Lake Baikal, ice is observed at a distance of 5-7 km, and the middle of the lake is still open. Ice formed from the side of Olkhon Island, but only intermittently.
"Everything else is water. Ice formation in the south is not expected in the near future," the press service of the Baikal Search and Rescue Squad of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.
