The Project Office for Arctic Development has published the results of a sociological poll which studied to the quality of life in the northern regions.
More than 10,000 residents of the Arctic regions of the Russian Federation took part in the survey which determined their level of satisfaction depending on the region, age and gender.
On average, 75% of respondents said that they were satisfied with their living conditions, and the highest satisfaction was recorded among residents of the Nenets Autonomous District, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, the Murmansk Region and Yakutia.
Those who have lived in the Arctic for less than a year evaluate life in the region most positively: 82% of them are satisfied with the conditions and do not plan to leave.
Among the key factors in the quality of life, respondents named healthcare (72%), education (57%), working conditions (51%), housing and communal services (47%) and social protection (45%).
Meanwhile, residents are poorly informed about government support measures in the Arctic. The Arctic Mortgage remains the most well-known program, 30% of respondents know about it, followed by the Arctic Hectare, which is familiar to 26% of respondents.
Other programs, such as Arctic Zone Resident, Unified Arctic Subsidy and Master Plans, are only known to 5% - 15% of the population.
