Authorities to check Sulphur Program’s effectiveness

24 february 2025

In 2025, Russian authorities will verify the reduction in sulfur dioxide emissions at the Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant in Norilsk which was achieved thanks to Norilsk Nickel’s Sulphur Program.

"Our colleagues from Rosprirodnadzor assessed the equipment, confirmed its effectiveness, and our task in 2025, after installing the equipment on the pipe, is to verify that a certain tonnage, up to 400,000 tons of sulfur dioxide, is no longer emitted into the air," TASS quotes the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov as saying.

"Now the most important task is to verify the result of the work that Norilsk Nickel has done."

As specified by the company, this year, automatic control systems will be installed at the emission sources at the plant to assess their intensity.

First Vice President of Norilsk Nickel Nikolay Utkin said that this system will allow emissions to be reported automatically.
