The Russian Ministry of Construction has compiled a list of updated requirements for the design of railway lines in permafrost areas, Interfax reports, citing the department's press service.
"In order to implement the priority tasks of the strategy for spatial development of the Russian Federation until 2030 to ensure year-round transport links with remote and hard-to-reach areas, including populated areas in the Arctic, Siberia and the Far East, the Russian Ministry of Construction has updated the requirements for designing railways in areas where permafrost soils are widespread," said Deputy Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation Sergei Muzychenko.
It is reported that the new rules are needed to ensure an effective regulatory framework for the construction and reconstruction of railway infrastructure facilities.
Requirements are also established for the use of geosynthetic materials and gabion structures, which will reduce the volume of excavation work compared to traditional solutions.
