Scientists propose creating Arctic research centre on Svalbard

05 march 2025

Scientists have proposed to create an international Arctic research centre on the Svalbard archipelago.

The press service of the Federal Autonomous Scientific Institution (FANU) Vostokgosplan, cited by TASS, published a statement proposing to create a research centre to promote international cooperation, develop the resource base, increase the competitiveness, bolster environmental protection and draw attention to the climate agenda.

"We need to use our presence on Svalbard more effectively to create an international-level research centre," said Vostokgosplan Director Mikhail Kuznetsov.

"At the same time, special attention must be paid to innovative development and achieving technological independence. This is the lesson of the last three years," he added.
