In 2025, the autonomous non-profit organization Clean Arctic plans to employ several shifts of volunteers to clean up territories from waste at Cape Chelyuskin, where the environmental project team first reached in 2024, said Andrei Nagibin, head of the organization’s project office.
Cape Chelyuskin is the northernmost mainland point of Eurasia, Asia and Russia, as well as the northernmost point of the continental landmass. Chelyuskin is located in the north of the Taimyr Peninsula and is considered one of the most inaccessible continental capes. Cape Chelyuskin is one of the few places where the average annual temperature is in the negative zone, TASS reported.
According to Nagibin, the harsh conditions at Cape Chelyuskin do not deter the Clean Arctic volunteers, who are becoming more numerous every year. Waste objects in remote Arctic territories are primarily comprised of 200-liter barrels, heavy machinery and construction waste.
