Ethiopia to host an African climate summit in September

17 april 2025
The Ethiopian Government has announced its readiness to host the second African Union (AU) climate Summit in September 2025. The meeting is being convened by decision of the 38th session of the Heads of State and Government of the AU member states, which took place in Addis Ababa last February, Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timotevos said.
According to him, the participants of the upcoming summit should formulate Africa's priorities on the climate agenda and work out a common position in negotiations with partners for their successful completion.
The previous African climate Summit was held in Addis Ababa in February 2024. Then its delegates called for the adoption of emergency measures to preserve the Earth's climate.
In their opinion, Western states should provide them with more significant assistance in environmental efforts. The summit emphasized that actions to combat climate change in Africa are being held back by inadequate funding. tass.ru reports.
