Norilsk Nickel has completed the major step in the reconstruction of the Kureyskaya hydroelectric power plant (HPP) dam.
The upgraded dam will increase the efficiency of the plant and become an important stage in the development of renewable energy sources in the Norilsk Industrial District.
The project is part of Nornickel’s environmental strategy aimed at reducing emissions from thermal power plants and increasing clean energy production. The total investment in the project, which will be completed in 2026, exceeds 9 billion rubles.
Located 300 km south of Norilsk, the Kureyskaya HPP is one of the northernmost hydroelectric power plants in the world. The station is part of Nornickel’s isolated power grid and, with an installed capacity of 600 MW, provides up to a third of all electricity for the needs of the Norilsk Industrial District.
