Nornickel: New housing in Norilsk will be built by developer proof-tested by the Far North

07 september 2022

To implement a large-scale housing renovation program in polar Norilsk, Nornickel together with the city administration and the Ministry of Construction of the Krasnoyarsk Territory decided to attract a reliable developer with extensive experience in the Russian Arctic. The construction of the first two modern multi-story new buildings in the city was undertaken by Grad, a Krasnoyarsk-based company. The need for housing renovation in Norilsk is long overdue: mass building in the city was carried out mainly in the 1940-1960s, new construction projects have not been implemented here for a long time. The municipal housing facilities consist of more than 850 apartment buildings, and the depreciation of the buildings has reached almost 45%. Due to extreme climatic conditions, buildings quickly become dilapidated: their bases are deformed, wall panels and blocks are physically worn out. As part of the large-scale renovation program launched in 2021 by Nornickel until 2035, about 100 new residential buildings are planned to be built in the city. This will allow more than 10,000 families to celebrate their long-awaited housewarming.
