Some Trends in Jewelry Design

18 december 2007

The authors of jewelry portal jckonline.com attract attention to one of the key trends in the expiring year – the vogue for bracelets of several chains. In their opinion, this tendency brought about changes in women’s dress design – couturiers are now showing bracelet-length sleeves in dresses and even in coats. This fashion also marked the return of gloves, particularly long gloves, covering forearms.
It is stressed that the number of bracelets, their size and the way they are worn often depend on who is wearing them. Thus, a woman with long and slender arms having thin wrists may afford putting on several bracelets “entangling” the arm. At the same time, for a woman having strong and muscled arms it would be better to have just one large bracelet on her wrist.
It is undesirable, according to the observer, to wear two similar eye-catching bracelets on both wrists. They will attract attention, making people hold their eyes on this line, which sometimes the adornments wearer may not want.

The jewelry.com portal, which earlier held its traditional campaign to promote right-hand diamond rings, has chosen opal as the stone for October. In the opinion of the portal authors, this changing and multi-faced stone playing with all rainbow hues is the best possible match for such a dull and colour pale season as the late autumn.
Magnificent and stunning – this is what can be said of the chosen stone of the month, jewelry.com. remarks. Unique colour features of opals make them a one-only accessory for any outfit – from jeans and T-shirts to an exquisite evening ensemble.

The authors of nationaljewelernetwork.com were a bit late to return to discussing the Vicenzaoro exhibition of Italian designers in early November, though we saw it as far back as September (our previous report was dedicated to this exhibition). Nationaljewelernetwork.com noted the same trends as IDEXonline did it a bit earlier: this year, at Vicenzaoro prevailing were grand-style design ideas accompanied by eye-catching adornments of yellow and rose gold combinations. Colour gemstones, black and brown diamonds coupled with regular diamonds is another trend demonstrated during this show.

A Fashion Week took place in New York on September 5-12. According to nationaljewelernetwork.com, there was no special rush at the jewelry shows since they offered many things held over from 2007. Long, layered necklaces, colorful beads cuff bracelets made many repeat appearances from on collection to another. According to Helena Krodel of Jewelry Information Center, necklaces were popping up the most as offerings for the spring of 2008. “Thick, precious-metal rings are the news,” Krodel said.

The German Association of Jewelry and Watch Industry also noted many of the above-mentioned features in jewelry trends for the autumn and winter of 2007-2008. According to the association, jewelry accessories remain one of the means of self-expression, a way to stress something in one’s character or appearance. The use of colours, large stones and flower themes in design continues to be an essential point.

By all appearances, it may be summed up that major jewelry trends of 2007 are not yet exhausted and may have further development.
