Addressing LGBT Community

29 september 2008

In May 2008, the Supreme Court of California gave permission for same-sex marriages. As it turned out, this may promise new opportunities for the jewelry industry.
At first sight, the number of same-sex couples eager to tie the knot is not that great to seriously influence the financial state of jewelers. However, a survey by the Los-Angeles-based California University published in June showed that about one half of 102 600 same-sex couples living in that state consider a marriage. The surveyors established that same-sex weddings in the nearest three years would bring over $680 million to California’s economy.
A significant part of that money will settle in the pockets of California’s jewelers. Some of them start not only busily attracting new clients, but contemplating off-beat design solutions for engagement and wedding rings. For instance, the Libertine boutique in Indian Wells offers such clients jewelry pieces featuring rainbow color sapphires symbolizing, as is known, the LGBT movement.
