Diamond Trade Is Roaring Back Thanks To Stuck-At-Home Shoppers
08 february 2021
(fa-mag.com) - The global diamond trade spent years in the doldrums, only to be crippled by the pandemic just as things started looking up. Now, at last, business is booming again. Factories in the industry’s “engine room” -- the Indian city of Surat -- are so desperate to boost production that the most-skilled cutters and polishers are being headhunted with offers of 50% pay hikes and perks like free food and housing. Miner De Beers is poised for its biggest rough-diamond sale in three years, even after raising prices, and rival Alrosa PJSC said this week it expects the recovery will keep going for some time.
Natural Diamonds: An "Intruder" in the Laboratory-Grown Supply Chain
05 february 2021
(idexonline.com) - Last May, I wrote a Memo about the need for full disclosure on grading reports issues by gemological laboratories when it comes to post-growth treatments of laboratory-grown diamonds. We all have our own worlds, determined by where we live, who we love, how we fill our days and the values we hold dear. In our own world, that of diamonds, change is also in the air. De Beers, the biggest supplier of diamonds

03 february 2021

A Geneva court last week sentenced Steinmetz to five years in jail after finding him guilty of offering $8.5m to the wife of deceased former Guinea president, Lansana Conté for the rights to part of the Simandou iron ore deposit. Steinmetz has appealed the decision.
Zimbabwe: Army-Linked Anjin Grabs Richest Diamond Claim
02 february 2021
(allafrica.com) - An army-linked miner, Anjin Investments (Pvt) Ltd, grabbed the most lucrative diamond claim in Marange from a firm owned by the government after being relicensed under unclear circumstances, it has emerged. Investigations carried out with support from Information for Development Trust, a non-profit organisation helping journalists to expose corruption and bad governance, established that Anjin has effectively taken over Portal B, a diamond-rich zone in Marange that was being mined by the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC), a government outfit set up in 2016.
