Looking Like a Happy Holiday, Forecasters Say
08 december 2020
(jckonline.com) - Holiday sales will likely rise between 3.6% and 5.2% this year, though the continuing spread of COVID-19 still poses risks to retail, the National Retail Federation said in its annual holiday forecast. Still, if the forecast hits the high end of projections, this could be the best season since 2017, when holiday sales rose 5.3%, and 2014, when they jumped 5.1%. The year would also top holiday sales increases for the past five years, which have averaged 3.5%.
Making the Most of the Holidays
07 december 2020
(diamonds.net) - It’s been a tumultuous year, and the upcoming holiday forecast has not eased concerns. Although sales are still expected to increase over last year, the margin is slim, according to AlixPartners. The consulting firm estimates that revenues for October through December will be only 1% to 2.6% higher than they were in 2019. Even with online sales expected to grow by 25% to 30% year on year, according to Deloitte, jewelry stores not already comfortable selling digitally will likely be unable to take advantage of that surge. Covid-19 has been a significant factor, certainly, but along with the year’s civil unrest and political instability, these numbers only confirm a retail upheaval was already in place.
