Is the ostrich finally lifting its head out of the sand?
27 december 2019
(jewellermagazine.com) - It’s a myth that, when faced with danger, ostriches bury their heads in the sand. In fact, they usually face the threat head on. Yet the ‘political’ leadership of our diamond industry behaved like the metaphorical ostrich when they tried to convince themselves that lab-grown diamonds would not threaten the existing market. They thought that they could make believe that lab-grown diamonds are not ‘the real thing’ and that people would understand. The thinking was, ‘All we need to do is explain the difference to consumers.’ Trying to fight new technology has always failed. Diamante Corporate Payment A New Chapter in Diamond Supply Chain Management
25 december 2019
(finance.yahoo.com) - For years the diamond industry has been operating on a payment structure that relies on time-consuming cross border transactions and wire transfers. This leads to a trail of paperwork and documentation that is hard to track, making the payment process lengthy and expensive. The traditional ways also make transactions vulnerable to theft and fraud. Diamante Consortium has harnessed the values of blockchain technology into creating their B2B corporate payments network that enables cross border payments in a matter of seconds at a fraction of the cost.

In a letter issued to companies in Surat and Mumbai, the mining company, which in 2018 forayed into gem-quality synthetics with the launch of its Lightbox brand, is demanding that the businesses make full disclosures about their products, segregate synthetics from their natural supply and avoid making unproven claims.
Diamond sector prospects in the balance as De Beers head for worst sales in four years
24 december 2019
(miningmx.com) - The outlook is mixed on whether the diamond sector will recover from this year’s trading difficulties in 2020 with some commentators believing rough diamond price cuts have been insufficient to stimulate demand especially as lender’s are still wary of the sector.
