These Lower-Tier Chinese Cities Will Have 2 Million or More ‘High-Income’ Residents by 2030

21 november 2016

(jingdaily.com) - Chinese cities like Foshan, Wenzhou, or Changsha may not be considered to be among the country’s luxury epicenters, but a new study by The Economist Intelligence Unit finds that by 2030, lower-tier cities like these will have more “high-income” consumers than Beijing has now. According to the “Chinese Consumer in 2030” report released this week, 35 percent of China’s population is predicted to be “upper-middle class” or above by 2030. This will amount to about 480 million people, marking a massive increase from the current estimate of 132 million upper-middle class people in China (10 percent of the population).

From Private Jets to EasyJet: The Changing Face of the Diamond Consumer

18 november 2016

(ehudlaniado.com) - It used to be that most diamonds were sold to the jet-set, a globetrotting group of people that included tycoons, captains of industry, royalty, Hollywood actors, and the like. Buying a high-cost diamond necklace or ring was an expenditure that they could easily manage financially, so it was almost a no-brainer. Few others bought these jewelry items. Perhaps someone who did exceptionally well at the casino one night, or a person who lived in a politically unstable country and wanted a large diamond that could serve as a store of value, an item that could be easily placed in the pocket before running away, and transformed into cash after arriving in safety. That was in the 1950s and 60s. Today you may call them the one percent, but at the time, they represented a far smaller section of society. Over time, more and more people joined the middle class, and the economy developed to provide more at a lower cost, making once-inaccessible items much easier to obtain. This process was one that can be described as democratizing accessibility. What was once available only to few becoming accessible to many.

Education Is the Sparkle in Blue Nile's Marketing

17 november 2016

(dmnews.com) - The average marriage rate in the U.S. today is low. In its 2015 U.S. Wedding Forecast report, forecasting firm Demographic Intelligence predicted that the marriage rate will reach 6.7 per 1,000 people this year. And as The Dallas Morning News noted in its coverage of the report, this number includes people who are getting married for the second or third time. It's Blue Nile's job to find these lovebirds before they pop the question. Engagement rings make up 60% to 70% of the online jeweler's revenue, according to Blue Nile's senior director of digital marketing Lori Gatto. But the customer journey doesn't end there. It's up to the company to then convince those customers to return and make subsequent purchases, such as wedding bands or Valentine's Day gifts.

Lab-Created Synthetic Diamonds

16 november 2016

(diamonds.pro) - Before we get into the nitty gritty details, I should preface this with our general feeling about diamonds. While we think diamonds are beautiful and a great choice when you are looking to make a luxury jewelry purchase, we do not buy into the marketing that DeBeers has rammed down our throats for a century, convincing people that you must buy a diamond when you get engaged. The founder of this site even wrote an article for Huffington Post to that effect. Our goal is not to convince people that they should buy a diamond. We are here to help people who are buying diamonds to get the best bang for their buck. We find the right balance of quality to get the biggest diamond you can within your budget and help you avoid any rocks or shoals along the way.
