Investors are growing more skeptical of gold’s lasting luster

(bloomberg.com) - Hedge funds and other speculators cut their wagers on a bullion rally for the fourth time in five weeks. As traders tire, the metal’s 30-day historical volatility has dropped to the lowest since November. Open interest is also on the decline. After stunning gains to start the year, bullion has started to lose its momentum. Prices are down about 1 percent in August as the U.S. economy picks up steam, damping demand for a haven. American payrolls surged in July and wages climbed, pointing to renewed optimism that the jobs market will sustain consumer spending in the second half of 2016.
Do People Buy $1 Million Jewels Online?
15 september 2016
(jckonline.com) - Once upon a time, the industry fervently debated whether consumers would buy a $5,000 ring online. And while e-tailers still struggle with the cyber version of threshold resistance, the overall question has long since been answered: Yes, they will. The Top 3 Strategies Diamond Retailers Can't Live Without

(idexonline.com) - Fundamental change is sweeping the retail industry. In the 19th century, a tailor fit a garment to a customer. In the 20th century era of mass production, customers scoured store racks to find the right outfit. In the 21st century, buyers purchase clothes online, try them at home, and send back the ones that don't fit – with free shipping. Technology has given us mass marketing and worldwide reach. Over time, the buying experience has been depersonalized. For retailers today, it may seem harder to connect with customers, to give them as perfect a fit as the 19th century tailor was able to do.
I Found a Diamond Resource. Now What?
12 september 2016
(ehudlaniado.com) - Over the last few weeks, we have taken an in-depth look at diamond exploration and have seen that finding diamonds is a very difficult task. Often aided by good science, and a little bit of luck, exploration geologists operate in a high-risk, high-reward environment where many discoveries prove worthless in their pursuit of a high-value economic diamond deposit. The amount of work that goes into a discovery is immense. But this often pales in comparison to the work required to develop a viable mining plan, which is often a pre-requisite to obtaining financing for a prospective project. The really hard work begins only after the basic economics of a diamond project have been determined, using what I call the ‘magic formula’. A feasibility study is needed to determine the full costs of mining, including both capital costs to build the mine, and ongoing operating costs. This is an extensive process that can take two to three years to complete, but is often needed before the company can seek financing for mine construction, whether external or internal.
