Could Breakout Year Turn Into Breakdown Year?

18 june 2014

(IDEX Online) - This year was widely touted, just a few months ago, as a breakout year for the global economy in general, and the U.S. economy in particular. However, frustratingly turgid growth in the United States continues, with GDP growing at an annualized rate of only 0.1 percent in the first quarter and the country’s housing rebound has apparently stalled. Meanwhile, fears of deflation in the Euro zone and Japan, as well as a new sales tax in the world's third-largest economy, and a continuing slowdown in economic expansion in China have conspired to maintain tension across the globe in all things financial.

US Diamond Jewelry Sales, Are They Rising?

In the diamond jewelry industry, the U.S. is the most important market, followed by China. The U.S. is paramount because most sales and profits are generated in this market.

Paris As A ‘Dead End’? Initiative Needs A Restart

11 june 2014

(IDEX Online) - The efforts to reach out and get African producers involved in the Precious Stones Multi-Stakeholder Working Group (PS-MSWG) at last proved successful: representatives from a handful of African nations traveled to Paris. They were joined by some 50 private companies, NGOs and government members of the Multi Stakeholders Working Group. Judging by Tweets and other feedback, the Africans came with high anticipations but left quite disappointed; some were even upset. This might have been due to miscommunication. Some mistakenly believed that this was a governmental OECD meeting. The OECD spokesman, who dominated the morning sessions, made it very clear that his (OECD) participation was merely as an Observer.
