In Russia, the plans are to strengthen state control over precious metals and gems and the proposal is that three state-owned laboratories, namely, forensic expert institutions of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, Interregional Department of the Federal Assay Chamber for Laboratory Research and Hemological Expert Examination, and the Russian State Precious Metals and Gems Repository (Gokhran) are expected to fulfil functions relating to the compliance certification of precious metals and gems. Such a document was passed in its first reading by the State Duma deputies at the plenary meeting held on October 15.
