Each time with the advent of a new year, pages of various jewelry portals go swamped with reports about jewelry fashion for the coming year. So, what are the forecasts offered by experts, what kind of impact will have prices for precious metals on jewelry, what fashion trends are expected this year? As it turns out from a variety of sources, the year of 2013 will be rich in jewelry fashion vagaries. And here is which exactly.
Precious artworks from the category of "fine jewellery" will continue to be made using the most expensive stones, Maria Doulton of the Jewellery Editor says. "High-end jewellery collections appear to grow in strength and value as the world economy shrinks," the expert believes.
Diamonds - eternal favorites
The primestyle.com portal published a small manual entitled "Trends in diamond jewelry in 2013." Despite everything, diamonds are always in fashion, they symbolize luxury, it says. Diamonds set in platinum will be in greater demand this year than gold jewelry. This year’s boisterous trend reads "The bigger, the better." Jewelry pieces flaunting very large diamonds come into fashion. Continuing interest is expected to be drawn to colored gemstones, highlighting Tiffany’s exclusive collection Legacy focused on rare colored gemstones (it’s the first time they were displayed to the world by Tiffany), such as morganite (pink beryl), tanzanite, tsavorite and kunzite (bright green garnet).
Precious metals
If gold, it should be pink! This color is the highlight of fine jewelry trends. Rose gold is perceived as less austere and is a sensual alternative to white and yellow metal.
Splash of color
Jewelry in the upcoming spring is focused on bright colors, already sparkling on the catwalks and red carpets. The rich color palette is composed of bright hues represented by coral and pink fuchsia, as well as by all shades of yellow and green (emerald represents the color of the year, according to a survey conducted by Pantone). The new color code even touched upon wedding rings. Multicolored sapphires (blue, yellow, pink, green, purple and violet) and rubies, starring as the main stone or in combination with traditional diamonds, are very popular among brides.
The latest Hollywood trend is about wedding rings with colored diamonds. There will be such unusual colors like blue, black, gray, olive, green, purple and red. No more than two colors are deemed to be the optimal combination. For example, it may be the union of a diamond with an emerald or a ruby or a gemstone corresponding to one’s date of birth. The last option would be just perfect making an absolutely sure gift for a person of any age and for any occasion. The classic black and white mix continues to be popular, like black and white diamond bracelets worn together and creating a newfangled trend. You can do it with strands of white and Tahitian black pearls. The more strands, the better.
"Metal" mix
Various design combinations of metals are the craze of the day this year. As gold prices have a tendency to "fly in the sky", some designers prefer to work with alternative metals, such as silver, bronze and copper. These metals can help you implement great design ideas, giving consumers a chance to enjoy affordable prices "downstream." For instance, a perfect combination of silver and bronze is preferred by those who like something that looks like gold, but is worth like silver (it’s the jewelry line from Janice Girardi).
Trends
All the latest trends in jewelry are usually born at jewelry shows, on the catwalks and red carpets accompanying awards ceremonies. Big & Bold is the hottest style of the year proved to be going strong by virtually all the red carpet events. Everything which is great, catchy and bold is in fashion nowadays. Excessively big or overly luxurious pieces having a multi-layered jewelry structure appear to be the distinctive feature of this style. The Big & Bold jewelry may include massive short necklaces and at the same time some long necklaces; an absolute chic is to wear strands of diamonds or pearls, large earrings, wide shoulder or wrist cuffs, multiple layers of thin bracelets and evening (cocktail) rings with huge stones.
The mandatory jewelry tendency this year is to wear jewelry with its symbol, the Snake, and this was often seen at star ceremonies, not to mention the brand treasury of Bvlgary (Serpenti Collection), Boucheron (Serpent Bohème Collection), Carrera & Carrera and Cartier. Many other manufacturers and independent jewelry designers are also busy producing their own "snake" jewelry.
Vintage diamond jewelry is at the height of fashion. It's the right time to get your old Victorian or Art Deco jewelry out from the jewel box (this is implied by the Pearl Collection called Regalia designed by Mikimoto). Back from the past are gold chains with large links. Linked bracelets and necklaces impress you like manifestations of tenderness and impulsive inspiration.
Seductive tassel jewelry - a new fashion trend - feature earrings and pendants with dancing tassels made of precious stones, uncut diamonds, irregular small-size pearls (another twist of the year!) and metal chains. The high price of gold and other precious metals affected the mainstream jewelry range. Attempts to attain "more with less" gave birth to light and airy pieces frequently made using delicate techniques and light fasteners (as in the Imperiale Collection of Chopard) or alternative materials. The lacy adornments from Louis Vuitton’s new collection, Voyage dans le Temps, are dazzling you with the whiteness of gold and diamonds. Jewelry made "for luck" is especially popular in the coming year – and it is often in the shape of a symbolic four-leaf clover.
The cabochon cut is also among the trends, for sometimes it is the best way to give fans a chance to enjoy large colored stones.
Earrings were a specially honored category of jewelry at all of the latest jewelry shows and red carpet events being a decoration which is mandatory for this year (along with necklaces). Some of the most fashionable currents include: exquisite drop earrings, button earrings, stud earrings, chandelier earrings and dancing earrings falling down to your shoulders in cascades. Diamond drop earrings hanging right from the lobe of the ear seem to be one of the most sophisticated fashion quirks of the year.
The spring / summer 2013 season is characterized by abundance of earrings and rings. They have a variety of shapes and sizes, graced with diamonds, mother of pearl enamel and precious stones. Silver rings and huge gold hoops of angular symmetry in the art deco style are turning swanky.
The "bracelet" trend observed in the Golden Globe Awards was an eclectic mix of jewelry deliberately set with luxury diamonds accompanied by an unexpected misalliance of metals.
One of the most recent and growing trends is the eco-friendly rope bracelets bearing precious metals and stones. Elastic rope bracelets produced by Italian brand Vai Milano contain silver and gold (18Kt) plates incrusted with 0.02 ct diamonds and are priced starting at € 59 in retail. Very low prices attract a wide range of clients. Rubber bracelets with diamonds are very popular and have their own special glamor, and besides they are inexpensive (offered by Duepunti and Vai Milano).
Innovative hair and head jewelry is also included in the list of popular trends this year. Many a celebrity were spotted showing off diamond-studded hair clips, hair bands, tiaras and brooches in the course of red carpet ceremonies.
