Be Real, Maintain Price, Don’t Be A Clone: Viva Las Vegas
14 june 2016
(edahngolan.com) - While clearly better than last year’s show, the recent JCK Las Vegas trade show proved that the fine jewelry industry is still far from being out of the cold. Diamond booths were surprisingly busy, and it seems that generally the industry is making strides to combat some of its main issues: generic marketing and lab-grown goods. Compared to last year, trading levels were better – there is no doubt about that. However, sales were not back to their pre-crisis 2013 levels. Mumbai, Tel Aviv and Antwerp traders may decide on the back of the Las Vegas show to slowly reduce prices of some of the smaller goods. It should be kept in mind that manufacturers’ inventories are currently filling up as the large rough supplies from January, February and soon March are making their way through the polishing process, adding pressure to the need to generate sales, and one way to move goods is by lowering prices. If demand for these goods does not pick up soon, this is the expected course.
Three Things the Diamond Trade’s Survival Depends On
10 june 2016
(diamonds.net) - The diamond industry is waking up to a new reality. Not only are the banks insisting on stricter compliance standards and pipeline integrity, but the largest mining companies and jewelry retailers are rapidly following suit. This is forcing the industry to rethink the way it conducts business so that ‘transparency, responsibility and sustainability’ are engrained in the ethos of the trade. It was therefore no coincidence those three concepts formed the central theme of the World Diamond Congress recently held in Dubai.
If small investor buys diamonds instead of bonds
09 june 2016
(Il Sole 24 Ore) – Do you fear the vicissitudes of the stock market? Almost all who invest their savings will give quite an expected answer to this question. But for those who want to learn more about the fears experienced by investors, it would be good to follow gold and diamond sales for investment purposes. There is not much to say about the behavior of the yellow metal considered the best safe haven, taking into account the movement of prices for the gold ounce at COMEX. The opposite is true regarding diamonds - a decade ago, it was a nonexistent market, but now it seems to compete even with government bonds.
Roaring bargains with diamonds in chase of 3.5% per year
08 june 2016
(La Stampa) - From the show-windows of the most prestigious jewelers people hurry to bank counters. Lately, diamonds, too, have become 'investments.' Those who feel uncertain are seduced with the lure of a safe haven. People are also attracted by their value-adding performance in a time when returns offered by more traditional instruments, such as treasury bonds or bullions, are below zero. Over the past five years, investment diamonds generated an average yield of 3.5% per annum, according to Intermarket Diamond Business (IDB), a leading player in the Italian market. Real estate and gold went into the red in the same span of time.
